Driving Unified Mobility

iPass Device Lockdown: Safety First
-

iPass Device Lockdown:

•Locks down Internet access
  until compliance is achieved

•Performs health checks and
  updates on the fly

•Unlocks access upon completion

•Does not require user intervention

...........................................

The iPass Portal lets IT staff:

• Set device policies

• Monitor connection usage

• Verify device compliance

............................................

iPass Device Lockdown service adds an important layer of protection to iPass Virtual Office users. At system boot, this service blocks all Internet traffic except that between the device and iPass Policy Servers. Only after these servers have assessed the security and operating system software on the device for policy compliance, and updated the device if necessary, does the device get full Internet access. iPass Device Lockdown checks for rogue applications, out-of-date security software and missing Windows patches. Problems are fixed automatically via a protected link.

This service complements network-based "scan and block" approaches by protecting the increasing number of devices that spend time on the Internet without connecting to the corporate network. This provides a first line of defense while also improving the device's chance of gaining network access when the user initiates a VPN or LAN session. It also automates the process of downloading, installing and launching any software updates, reducing user frustration and help desk calls.

Putting IT in the Driver's Seat
Both of these services simplify and unify management for the IT department. IT only has to manage a single vendor relationship, aggregating hundreds of access networks. They get a single detailed invoice for fixed and mobile broadband access, and use a single Portal for service management. They also get detailed reports of all user connection attempts, whether over an iPass network, enterprise private link, or even a third-party network subscription. The iPass Portal also makes it easy to set device and connection policies and monitor device compliance—again, across all connections.

iPass even simplifies home office service provisioning and deployment, coordinating all scheduling with local Internet providers and sending telecommuters a Wi-Fi gateway that's preconfigured with their specific settings. Finally, the iPassConnect universal client not only simplifies the user experience, but IT now only has one software package to test, deploy and manage.
